Graduation 2008 Congratulations to Tanya Vincent and Freddie Winters, ACMS's most recent graduates. Congratulations are extended as well to all the people in their lives that worked hard to make this possible.
"With every end, comes a new beginning" The Ceremony The graduation ceremony began at the Moravian Church at 4:00 in the afternoon. After the opening processional and call to worship, the whole church sang "Nearer my God to Thee". Marjorie Flowers gave a motivational scripture reading, followed by the Tutsiatingit choir with "Savour like a Shepperd Lead Us". Then we sang a second hymn "Seek Ye First".
Mrs. Doris presented the diplomas to the graduates.
The Tutsiatingit Choir sang another song, "Amazing Grace" which was followed by the closing prayer and recessional. Tanya and Freddie stood outside the church to recieve the guests, pose for some pictures, and toss their grad hats!
The Banquet The Graduation Banquet began at 6:00 pm, with Ms. Barrett acting as an MC for the evening. After the students grand entrance, Mr. Coombs made opening remarks. Marjorie Flowers said a prayer, and Ms. Rosie Piercy said grace in Inuttitut. After the meal, Georgia Lamswood, past teacher at ACMS made a speech as a special guest, followed by Freddie who proposed a toast to the parents. Christine Vincent responded with a speech to the students. The valedictory, a touching speech, was made by Tanya. Tanya also proposed a toast to the teachers. Other special guests included Vancessa Lucy on behalf of the school council, Patty Pottle, our local MHA, and Gregory Flowers, on behalf of the Nunatsiavut Government. Messages were also sent wishing luck, kind words, and congratulations, from Mr. Obed, a recently past teacher, our MP Todd Russell, and Bruce Vey, Director of Education for the Labrador School Board. The speeches concluded with a slide show put together by Ms. Barrett, showing Freddie and Tanya through the ages. The evening drew to a close with the cutting of the cake, and then a short dance, first the graduates and their parents, and then the graduates and their dates. Everyone was sure to get plenty of pictures before going their own separate ways.
